2018 Nissan Altima vs Toyota Camry | Hoover, AL

2018 Nissan Altima vs 2018 Toyota Camry

Serving Hoover, AL, Birmingham, and Vestavia Hills

When it comes to midsize sedans, both the 2018 Nissan Altima and the 2018 Toyota Camry rank high in the minds of consumers and experts alike. The midsize class, which is often the most popular among buyers, provides a level of handling and fuel economy that can't be found in larger vehicles but also offers spacious seating in a way that compact cars cannot. For many consumers shopping for a vehicle, this class provides the best of both worlds.

However, within the world of midsize sedans, there are some models that prove to be more popular and high quality than others. And two of the biggest contenders on the market right now are the 2018 Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry. Both have proven to be fine vehicles, but is one better than the other? Here's a look at how the two stack up against each other.

Starting MSRP

When it comes to price, the Nissan Altima inches out the competition with an MSRP of $23,260* for the base S trim. The Toyota Camry has a starting MSRP of $23,495 - a difference of $235. For the top-of-the-line 3.5 SL trim, the Altima price jumps to $33,630*, as compared to $34,950 for the top-ranked XSE trim on the Camry. The difference between base models may be insignificant, but if you're interested in spending more on trim features, you'll end up saving a few thousand dollars by opting for an Altima.

Cargo Space

The Toyota Camry comes with a respectable 15.1 cubic feet of trunk space, unless you opt for the basic L trim, which only comes with 14.1 cubic feet. For most folks, this is plenty of room, but it is a bit lower than the average midsize sedan. On the other hand, all trim levels for the Nissan Altima come with 15.4 cubic feet of space, which is more in line with the midsize average. However, the Altima really pulls away from the rest of the pack when it comes to its trunk's wide opening and low lift-over height, which makes for easier cargo packing and arranging.

Seating

You'll ride in comfort with both models, but the Altima offers a little more in terms of seating. While the Camry's seats are considered roomy, some buyers have reported that they are a little on the firm side. For short commutes, this isn't a huge problem, but things could get painful on longer trips. By comparison, the Altima's "zero gravity" seats are frequently hailed as some of the most comfortable seating on the market. Additionally, since the Altima sits a bit higher off the ground than the Camry, taller passengers won't find themselves crouching as much to get in the vehicle.
